Toph didn't tell anyone except his Bishop and the Stake President he was ready to serve a mission. He prepared his papers himself and only got his Mom involved when he needed some doctor appointments. He told his Dad two days before the call came. He wanted to do it by himself. He wanted to go for the right reason, not because his parents wanted him to or his girlfriend or because of peer pressure. He wanted to go to teach others the unconditional love of our Savior Jesus Christ.
